The home of yet another ubuntu specifically created for the Asus EEE PC!
Welded together in true A-Team style we have created a not-so-little iso distribution based on Ubuntu Hardy.
It is available in two flavours. First is the compiz enabled gnome version as shown in the screenshot and the second is based on Ubuntu Netbook Remix packages.
We are hoping to create a build that everyone can use along with the utilities to help make life with our little machines a little easier.
We hope you can take the trip with us and participate (via the forums) in creating a distribution that we all actually want to install and use. We are open to all ideas, rants and raves, submissions or anything you can think of to help us get the best from the eee.
In the news you will find information regarding the recent release of eeebuntu hardy RC2 and NBR. Feel free to download, test and comment. We need your feedback to help us get eeebuntu into a useful and usable state.
If you feel something warrants a change, needs to be included/excluded then drop us a line and we'll see what we can do.
Shoot the Stars ******
The promised link to the story to end all stories (you'll never want to read again after reading this drivel )
so without further ado, please shoot the stars (please? for the sake of humanity?)
AWN does not load by default on RC2, this decision has been based on the number of users requesting AWN as an option. There is a script in /eeesupport/scripts that can be used to setup AWN auto load.
Compiz effects have been drastically cut down. There were some issues with wobbly windows etc. Compiz has been completely removed from eeebuntuNBR
Webcam has been built from berlios 215 trunk.
Madwifi built from special release.
Scripts for 701 and 900 setup in /eeesupport/scripts - these can be run post kernel updates to re-enable wifi/webcam/acpi etc. They also setup the scripts for acpi hotkeys and fix audio/shutdown problems.
As default, closing the lid will blank the screen and not put the eee into standby.
Wifi and webcam are re-enabled coming out of hibernation.
The enable/disable compiz icon has been placed on the panel at startup (RC2 only).
Speed and temperature applets have been removed from the panel for a cleaner look.
Clocksource parameter has been added to menu.lst by default to cut down boot times.
Boot time is 25-30 seconds on average (post bios to GDM).
Hotkeys for volume, brightness and wifi are all working.
The initial installation is for a 900 eee. When installed on a 701 you need to run the /eeesupport/scripts/config701.sh file as root to setup the 701 params. A seperate iso will be posted in the next couple of days to save you having to do this.
If you have problems with small icons on the 701 UME-Launcher then download and install:
